We held our KaBOOM! Play Day at this park, so it was really great. We had crafts in the grass areas, kids played basketball on the court and we did relays on the field.

This is a great summer park for DC. Has a lot of shade so it doesn't get too hot, unlike most of the other parks in the 'hood. However, because the playground areas isn't separated by age (like some of the other parks in the area) sometimes the older kids get a little out of hand in the area of the little ones.

I am writing from Dushanbe, Tajikistan, which is in desperate need of some good playgrounds. When I wax nostalgic about the playgrounds back in DC, Walter Pierce comes to mind first. Although the equipment is not especially challenging for older kids, there is plenty of open space for imaginative play and a paved area that is good for riding bikes. In the summer, its shade trees and breezes make it a veritable oasis. More importantly, there are always plenty of kids and parents around. There is a strong sense of community in this park and many local residents participate in its clean-up days. The park deserves 4 stars if not 5.
