YMCA of Silver Spring Childcare Center

The YMCA needs a new playground at this wonderful pre-school!

The Y has a great mission, but currently has only a barely adequate playground. While it is safely maintained and has enough playthings to go around, these kids use it EVERY day! We need something modern with pizzazz!

The children who use the playground bring great innovation to their play... inventing all sorts of adventures from the few rudimentary elements at hand. I'm not even certain what the intent of some of them are, and am uncomfortable with their safety (the playground includes, for example, a wooden platform on springs that is fortunately rarely used, considering the potential for pinch and crush injuries). The playground itself is well-used, often serving as the only outside experience the children have for many days on end. The staff maintain what they have with diligence, but there isn't really much there. Such an important community resource as this YMCA Children's Center really needs a more educational, immersive, and supportive environment that encourages creative play. The benefits to the children and the larger community would be immense.

This playspace is not very safe for the kids. Most of the equipment is older and some of it made of wood which causes splinters. The preschool is part of a nonprofit organization with a wonderful mission. A new playground would enhance the school and make the YMCA shine among the other preschools in the area.

I'd say this playground is below average given all of the neat ones out there in the world. These kids need to really shine.

This center has been a wonderful place for children to learn and grow. The playground equipment is dated and needs improvement. Winning this contest would mean a lot to the kids.

We love the Y and the childcare center. I think improving the playground is a priority and love that the staff and community are dedicated to doing so. An improved playground will make a direct positive impact on the kids and the program.
